Corruption, definition, causes, effects and how to end it
Social corruption is defined as dishonest or exploitative behaviour in dealing with others, and often includes abuses of human rights. Examples include lying, stealing, human trafficking, child abuse, and nepotism. Social corruption is a great disruptor of political stability, social cohesion, and economic growth.
Political corruption is more disruptive, and includes election fraud, the conduction of unfair or rigged elections, and the direct seizure of power. Examples of corruption among the powerful include segregation and marginalization of the opposition, favouritism, tribalism, power maintained past term limits, unlawful arrest and detention of opponents, extra-judicial killings, and the promotion of regionalism. Sierra Leone’s prolonged civil war is largely blamed for this type of corruption.
Economic corruption involves the activity of both public and private sector officials, and is defined as the taking of bribes or the embezzlement of money, assets, or property. This type of corruption is rampant in Sierra Leone.
In response to this widespread and destructive corruption, the Sierra Leonean government formed the Anti-Corruption Commission several years ago as an official body tasked with prosecuting and imprisoning corrupt officials. Few are confident in this organization, and many believe that if it has not yet completely failed in its mission, it will require far more resources than with which it is currently provided.

Facts
- It is a known fact that handouts do not work; if they worked, the billions of dollars in donations given to non-profits would’ve ended the vicious cycle of dependency in third world nations. But instead of the problems getting better, there is a pressing need for more and more donations every day since millions of children slip through cracks everyday; dying every second from preventable and easily curable diseases.
- Non-profits are allowing millions of children to slip through cracks in the system while millions of dollars are being donated annually.
Most non-profits use their donations by re-donating to individuals or other organizations without any accountability.

- Most non profits raise millions of dollars annually; the cost to construct infrastructure that will provide permanent reliable electricity in over 20 districts in an African country is less than $3 million.
- Funds raised so locals can drink clean water for a limited period of time unless donations keep pouring in exceeds 10 million dollars. The cost to construct permanent infrastructure for permanent clean water supply in 20 districts in an African country does not exceed 5 million dollars.
